Services for Architects
Solar Design Associates (SDA) provides architects with a single
source of responsibility for the design, engineering, and integration
of solar electric power systems including technical support during
construction and systems commissioning.
Since it's founding in 1974, the firm has earned an international
reputation with projects in the United States, Europe, Canada,
Latin America and the Caribbean. These energy-conscious projects
have incorporated passive solar heating and cooling systems,
active solar thermal systems, and solar power (electricity) from
photovoltaics. Some of these systems are interactive with the
utility grid, exporting surplus electricity to the distribution
network; others, located on islands or in remote areas independent
of the utility, use batteries for on-site electrical storage.
We would be pleased to discuss the requirements and explore
the design options for your next project with you. We can also
provide additional project details and references from architects
and their clients upon request.

American Institute of Architects
The American Institute of Architects and the National Renewable
Energy Laboratory wanted to set the stage for the coming
market in building-integrated photovoltaics. SDA helped develop
a curriculum for graduate schools of architecture, which
presents the principals of integrating PV in building design.
The AIA next addressed their professional members, asking
SDA to develop and present a nation-wide workshop program
for architects and related design professionals on the integration
of solar electricity in buildings. The AIA also asked Mr.
Strong to help plan and jury a national design competition
on Building-integrated PV held in 1996.
