solar joins the major leagues
All-Star Game features a solar-powered scoreboard and more
|
Location: San Francisco, CA USA
Client: Pacific Gas & Electric
Use: Major league baseball stadium
|
Background:
In an overwhelming expression of support for renewable energy, San Francisco
voters approved a referendum for a $100M bond issue exclusively to field
renewables in the city. While the program is focused on city-owned
facilities, it has spurred a groundswell of interest from the private sector
including the areašs largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric.
PG&E retained SDA to assess opportunities for PV at AT+T Park that would be
most visible to the public.
Special Features:
- SDA designed a series of PV awnings along the Port Walk overlooking famed McCovey cove where kayakers gather to catch home runs coming over the left field wall.
- A large PV canopy was designed above the main stadium access
ramp and a roof-top system was fielded on the Giants' executive offices.
-
To maximize visibility, SDA also designed a PV array mounted right on the
scoreboard. SDA managed construction for PG&E, completing the project ahead
of schedule for the 2007 All-Star Game.
